AVATAR Colonel Miles Quaritch Action Figure

continued from last post...

Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) is the head of the RDA corporation's mining operation's security detail - a private military force called Sec-Ops. Fiercely loyal to his military code, he has a profound disregard for Pandora's inhabitants and serves as the film's primary antagonist. Lang had unsuccessfully auditioned for a role in James Cameron's "Aliens (1986)", but the director remembered Lang and sought him for "Avatar (2009)". Michael Biehn, who was in "Aliens" [and also James Cameron's "The Terminator (1984)" and "The Abyss (1989)"], read the script and watched some of the 3D footage with Cameron, but was ultimately not cast in the role.

This is Mattel's 3 3/4-inch AVATAR Colonel Miles Quaritch Action Figure, ready to fight on any alien world! A military contractor who serves as RDA's head of security on Pandora. His skills: Expertise in military tactics and strategy, hand-to-hand combat, myriad weapons systems. Piloting of AMP suit, Dragon and Scorpion gunships.

Like I said before, not too keen on the Mattel Avatar toy packaging. Worst part of it is, the movie came out at the end of last year (2009) but Mattel has only begun releasing the toys in Singapore recently which is a really bad move for them because the hype and excitement for the movie is pretty much over, actually THREE months over.

This ramrod straight, lifelong soldier will do everything in his power to complete his mission. Col. Quaritch's current goal is to secure unobtanium for the RDA – at any cost. That must be one of the most corny names for a power source ever: un-obtain-ium, pretty lame moniker.

I only got this figure so that he can pilot/drive/operate the MK-6 Amplified Mobility Platform (AMP suit) which was covered in the previous post.

Close-ups of the Mattel 3 3/4-inch AVATAR Colonel Miles Quaritch Action Figure

Col. Miles Quaritch is armed with the "WASP gun". He used it when he tries to stop the fleeing Samson helicopter, and during the final battle to try to dislodge Jake.

Steven Lang, the actor who plays Col. Miles Quaritch, was also in the 2009 film "Public Enemies" as Charles Winstead (1891-1973), the FBI Agent in the 1930s-40s, famous for being one of the agents (along with Clarence Hurt and Herman Hollis) who shot and killed John Dillinger (played by Johnny Depp) on July 22, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois.

hey jon, i only got him to operate the AMP ;p

yeah LEon, Steven Lang was good in the movie; this figure doesn't do him justice

@ james - wasn't too keen on the figure itself, more to pair him with the robot (AMP)

This cool figure is very popular with Avatar toy collectors :) His character in the movie is really mean but in a way, he was doing his job. Not that I condone his behaviour, but because if it we get to watch some exciting destruction and battle scenes :P

Btw, "Matty" is short for MattyCollector.com, to buy collector's Mattel toylines like Avatar and Masters of the Universe Classics (MOTUC). MOTUC is very hot in recent months there :)
