Got my FREE Star Trek Captain Kirk Retro Mego Style Figure :)

Blogging has its privileges :) Besides being invited to the Media Preview at this year's Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention (STGCC) 2010, I also managed to get hold of this Star Trek Captain Kirk Retro Mego Style Figure given out by STGCC. It doesn't cost a lot but it's nice to know it's FREE ;p

As mentioned in my post title, this is the Star Trek Classic Captain Kirk Retro Mego Style Figure by Diamond Select. This figure is a reproduction of the classic 70's Star Trek action figure that was originally produced by Mego. Mego constructed their figures primarily in an 8-inch (200 mm) scale with cloth fabric costumes - setting an industry standard in the 1970s. This retro figure comes in a resealable plastic collectors card.

The original Star Trek TV series debuted in 1966 and ran for three seasons. Beginning with the original television series and continuing with the subsequent films and series, the franchise has created a cult phenomenon and has spawned many pop culture references.

Captain James T. Kirk is the commander of the Starship Enterprise, as portrayed by William Shatner. The head sculpt on this figure is widely regarded as one of the finest examples in Mego's history, offering an almost dead-on depiction of the good captain's unique mixture of compassion and smug confidence.

The figure came outfitted in a yellow tunic and black cuffed trousers. The tunic was detailed with a black neckband, three gold foil rank stripes on each arm, and a silver foil insignia. A black utility belt, blue phaser and blue communicator served to complete the ensemble.

And these are the Mego 8-inch tall Batman and Robin figures coming out to see what the commotion is about...

...along with the Mego Penguin 8-inch figure wondering if they should OPEN THE TOY haha (click on the pictures below for a bigger and better view)

Here are all three of them minus Capt Kirk as he's still stuck inside the packaging, trapped in the air that is 2007 when it was first released.

Burt Ward as Robin/Dick Grayson, Batman's faithful partner and "boy wonder" uttered some really funny lines on the 1960s campy "Batman" television series from January 12, 1966 to March 14, 1968. They included:

"Holey rusted metal, Batman! The ground. It's all metal. It's full of holes. You know, holey."

"Holy hole in the donut, Batman"

"Holy differentials, Batman. I calculus we have 15 minutes before Gotham is leveled."

"Holy Kleenex, Batman, it was right under our nose and WE BLEW IT!"

"Holy Strawberries Batman! We're in a Jam!"

It was CAMPY but boy, it was FUN haha!!!

For Captain Kirk, it was "Beam me up Scotty"
