continued from previous post...

Having gone into the box packaging and contents in my first part review of this Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS255 "Guardians of the Galaxy" 1/6th scale Star-Lord Collectible Figure on my toy blog in the earlier post HERE, let's look at the nice details found on this figure. Hot Toys is GREAT at replicating the details and accuracy of the 1:1 scale movie pieces into 1:6 scale miniatures and this Star-Lord figure is no exception. From the amazingly realistic head sculpt of Chris Pratt as Peter Quill / Star-Lord to his costume and accessories, everything is faithfully reproduced and beautifully crafted. Only top notch work can be found here and I'm very pleased with this Hot Toys collectible figure.

As with most of Hot Toys releases, always read the instructions first before attempting to do anything with the figure. You certainly don't want to cause any unnecessary damage to these expensive figures, a price to pay for the quality you are getting. Gone are the days of cheap toys. Now that you are an adult, you have to fork out good money for these high end collectibles, a whole new market created to entice and appeal to the adult-child who now has the disposable income to indulge in these things whilst still harboring a child inside, one who missed out on the wonderful toys while growing up.

The success of the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" has certainly fueled demand for these movie-related figures. Guardians of the Galaxy earned $333.2 million in North America and an estimated $441 million in other countries, for a worldwide total of $774.2 million. The film became the third highest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, behind The Avengers and Iron Man 3. It was the third highest-grossing 2014 film (behind Transformers: Age of Extinction and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies) and the highest-grossing superhero film of 2014.

The 1/6th scale Sony Walkman (portable audio cassette player with headset) is really very nice with cool details. You can see the "Awesome Mix Vol. 1" cassette tape through the 'window' and almost think the tape can be ejected. The audio cassette player attaches to Star-Lord's belt via a clip on the back of the player. Hot Toys warns that the clip is not articulated and should not be forced open, otherwise it might break.

The cool details are not just found on the Walkman, it's everywhere. Star-Lord's costume has lots of intricate details and stitching, from the long coat to the pants and boots with rocket boosters.

The boosters are not removable.

Here's Hot Toys 1/6th scale Peter Quill / Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) listening to his Sony Walkman. The Walkman is one of his most prized possession.

The Hot Toys 1:6 scale headset / headphones don't really fit very well onto Peter Quill / Star-Lord's head. There's a bit of extra allowance and makes the headphones which are non-adjustable stick out above his head. Would have been nicer with a better fit.

Star-Lord's belt is removable in order to achieve an alternate look. The belt unfastens by unsnapping the button at the back as the buckle does not function and you should not attempt to remove the belt by the buckle.

Here's a look at how Star-Lord's gun is holstered. The gun is as sci-fi as it gets.

Here's the alternate look for Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series MMS255 1/6th scale "Guardians of the Galaxy" Star-Lord 12-inch Collectible Figure with belt and holsters removed so that his long coat may be zipped up. The flap in front stays closed via magnets hidden inside the coat lining. Hot Toys advises against removing any part of the items on the coat itself as they are non-detachable.

Now for some close-up shots of the nice details found on Hot Toys Star-Lord's long coat. Peter Quill's costume seems to the uniform / attire worn by the Ravagers, a group of space pirates led by their leader Yondu Udonta (Michael Rooker) who appears to be a paternal figure to Quill. Star-Lord also has an earpiece around his right ear (non-removable) which is a universal translator used for communicating.
