Early April 2015 Haul: "X-Men: Days of Future Past" Wolverine & Star Wars 12" Stormtrooper

Picked up these two 12-inch figures for April 2015: Hot Toys MMS264 "X-Men: Days of Future Past" 1/6th scale Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) Collectible Figure and Hot Toys MMS267 "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" 1/6th scale Stormtrooper Collectible Figure.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is a 2014 superhero film based on the fictional X-Men characters that appear in Marvel Comics. Directed by Bryan Singer, it is the seventh installment of the X-Men film series and acts as a sequel to both 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand and 2011's X-Men: First Class. The story, inspired by the 1981 Uncanny X-Men storyline "Days of Future Past" produced by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, focuses on two time periods and Wolverine going to 1973 to save the future of mankind. The film stars an ensemble cast, including Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart.

So how is it that Hot Toys only produced and released a 1:6 scale Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) figure? What about the rest of the X-Men? Sometime back in 2012, Hot Toys had previewed the 1:6 scale James McAvoy as Charles Xavier / Professor X collectible figure from X-Men: First Class at their exhibitions (you can see the pictures HERE) but it was subsequently cancelled. Looks like there won't be any other mutant being made in 1:6 scale except Wolverine. Hot Toys also only released a 1:6 scale Wolverine from X-Men: The Last Stand - see my toy blog post HERE of the Hot Toys MMS187 "X-Men: The Last Stand" 1/6 scale Wolverine Limited Edition 12-inch Figure.

This Hot Toys MMS267 "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" 1/6th scale Stormtrooper Collectible Figure will be my very first Hot Toys Star Wars 12-inch figure. News that Hot Toys will also be releasing Star Wars figures brought out mixed feelings for me. Sideshow Collectibles hasn't done too bad a job especially with their armored trooper figures. They have also been improving greatly on their head sculpts and Hot Toys' steadily rising prices has not done them any good as far as I am concerned. Still it has been a while since we have seen a good and solid 12-inch Stormtrooper figure so I had to see how Hot Toys Stormtrooper fare.

The Hot Toys shoebox style packaging has become the standard type of packaging for all of Hot Toys MMS figures. In the past, some of the figures have come in rather creative and fancy packaging. Hot Toys boxes are still rather nicely designed and I find it hard to discard them even after removing the figure from the package. So I don't ;p Check out my recent post "Hot Toys Collector or Hot Toys Box Collector? Age-old question: To open / not to open the toy!" HERE to see some of the boxes I've kept.

Here's a peak at 12-inch Wolverine figure. Reviews will follow soon. Meanwhile, you can check out the preview pictures of this Hot Toys MMS264 "X-Men: Days of Future Past" 1/6th scale Wolverine 12-inch Collectible Figure HERE.

I didn't get the Hot Toys MMS268 "Star Wars: Episode IV" 1/6th scale Stormtroopers Set of 2 Collectible Figures because I didn't like the difference in their height - see the preview pictures HERE. I still prefer them to be of about the same height even though I know that in the Episode IV timeline, most of the clone troopers had perished and the Empire had to resort to these non-clone soldiers. Personally, I think these Stormtroopers will look nicer displayed when they are of the same height. If I need two Stormtroopers, I'll get another one of these single Stormtrooper instead.
