Hot Toys Captain America: Civil War 1/6th scale Black Panther 12-inch Collectible Figure Review

This was from my April 2017 haul (posted earlier on my toy blog HERE)

The Black Panther (T'Challa) is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer-editor Stan Lee and penciller and co-plotter Jack Kirby, he first appeared in Fantastic Four #52 (July 1966). He is the first black superhero in mainstream American comics, debuting years before such early African-American superheroes as Marvel Comics' the Falcon (1969) and Luke Cage (1972), and DC Comics' Green Lantern John Stewart (1971) and Black Lightning (1977). The character is usually depicted as the king and protector of Wakanda, a fictional African nation.

T'Challa / Black Panther made his live-action film debut in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War, played by Chadwick Boseman. In the film, he is shown displaying enhanced speed, agility, strength, and durability. His suit has retractable claws and is made of a vibranium weave, which can deflect heavy machine gun fire. He joins Iron Man's side, after seeing security footage implicating the Winter Soldier as his father's killer.

This is Hot Toys MMS363 Captain America: Civil War 1/6th scale Black Panther Collectible Figure. The 1/6th scale Black Panther costume is non restrictive and does allow more articulation than usual as it is made of a thin and stretchable material. But I wouldn't attempt extreme poses for fear of the costume tearing at the seams.

The box packaging design is a nod to the Marvel civil war comic book covers which were divided into half, with the art shown on the top half and just a white box below highlighting the words "Civil War". It's a nice concept but I would have preferred a full bleed image of the character instead.

Hot Toys MMS363 Captain America: Civil War 1/6th scale Black Panther Collectible Figure has absolutely not much accessories except for a couple of interchangeable gloved hands and the standard display stand. It would have been really nice on Hot Toys part to include a 1/6th scale Chadwick Boseman head sculpt for the unmasked look. I guess we'll only see that when the Black Panther film is released.

Check out the Captain America: Civil War themed Team Iron Man figure stand with character’s nameplate and the movie logo. Six (6) pieces of interchangeable gloved hands are included: One (1) pair of fists, One (1) pair of clenching hands, and One (1) pair of clenching hands with claws.

Instruction sheet is very brief and cautions against moving the head without first tilting it to prevent paint being rubbed off. The costume is also non-removable.

There's only one set of hands I'm using for this Hot Toys MMS363 Captain America: Civil War 1/6th scale Black Panther Collectible Figure and that's the hands with claws extended. I really like the design of the costume and am most impressed with how Hot Toys has managed to replicate the nice details. I like that it's not just black like in the comic books but rather a meticulously tailored black and silver colored Black Panther suit with extreme fine details and textures. According to the costume designers, the Black Panther costume is a combination of a practical costume and visual effects, featuring a vibranium mesh weave similar to chainmail.

The Hot Toys MMS363 Captain America: Civil War 1/6th scale Black Panther Collectible Figure's costume is stretchable but I doubt you can put the figure through extreme poses for fear of the costume tearing at the seams. You can see how the outfit is stitched together at the back.

Overall I'm still quite happy with this Hot Toys MMS363 Captain America: Civil War 1/6th scale Black Panther Collectible Figure even though it doesn't come with much accessories and I'm glad to add him to the Marvel Avengers display :)
