September 2017 haul: Hot Toys Doctor Strange, Terminator Genisys Endoskeleton and Agent Salt

This is my second haul for September 2017, having collected the Hot Toys MMS359 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 1:6th scale Wonder Woman movie-accurate collectible earlier - see the action figure review posted on my toy blog HERE.

This time, I've got the Hot Toys MMS387 1/6th scale Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange 12-inch collectible figure (previewed one year ago HERE), Hot Toys MMS352 Terminator Genisys 1/6th scale Endoskeleton 33 cm tall Collectible Figure which was previewed even further back in February 2016 HERE, and Supermad Toys 1:6 scale Agent Salt (Angelina Jolie) 12-inch action figure (preview pics HERE)

Most times pre-orders take a while to be released and we really lose track of when they'll come so it's a nice surprise when they finally do arrive. Better late than never, as the saying goes. I enjoyed Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of Doctor Strange and am glad to be able to own a 12-inch Cumberpatch figure as I'm a fan of his work - Sherlock Holmes, The Imitation Game, Star Trek Into Darkness etc. And it seems Hot Toys like him too because this figure comes with quite a bit of accessories, compared to Hot Toys MMS363 Captain America: Civil War 1/6th scale Black Panther Collectible Figure which had ZERO accessories (see my review HERE). Owning 1/6th scale figures is like having a mini Hollywood in your home, with all the famous stars / actors lining your shelves.

The Doctor Strange packaging is not your usual box design. The common boxes are either a shoebox design where there is a lid which you remove before you can get to the figure inside, or there is a slipcase cover which you slide out to reveal the figure inside a window box. The front of the packaging has a smaller square card which you turn anti-clockwise to unlock a catch which then allows you to open the flaps to reveal the contents inside.

There was a time when Hot Toys produced some rather creative boxes. Examples that come to mind are: Hot Toys MMS80 (Movie Masterpiece Series) Collector's Edition 1/6 scale Iron Man Mark I (pics HERE), Hot Toys MMS95 Terminator Salvation John Connor figure (pics HERE) and Hot Toys MMS82 Movie Masterpiece Series 1/6 scale Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands fully poseable action figure (reviewed HERE). Hot Toys does make an effort to have nicely designed packaging boxes which makes it very hard to throw them away. Check out some of the boxes displayed in a post HERE.

Next up: Hot Toys MMS352 1/6th scale Endoskeleton Collectible Figure from Terminator Genisys.

Packaging is the shoebox design.

As you can see, not that many accessories. It's interesting to note that this is not done as a die-cast figure. That is most probably because a die-cast figure would be so top heavy that the skinny legs would not be able to carry its own weight and the figure will just topple over. I have a Aoshima die-cast T-800 Endoskeleton and it has to have clamps onto the back of the figure to provide stability when posing due to the extremely top heavy body. See hte pics HERE.

And lastly, there's this Agent Salt 12-inch figure by Supermad Toys, most likely inspired by Angelina Jolie's character Evelyn Salt in the 2010 American action thriller spy film "Salt" which saw Angelina Jolie (twice Lara Croft on the big screen and once Mrs Smith alongside Brad Pitt) give as much as she takes with the guys in the film. Now in 2017, we have a similar female character in the form of sensual and savage MI6 spy Lorraine Broughton, played by the very convincing Charlize Theron as the neon-lit badass warrior in "Atomic Blonde". What a pair these two would make as the new and deadly Thelma and Louise.
